"The defenders of Normandy were not the best of Hitlers army. Those were in Russia and Italy, as well as in France, but on the other side of the Seine, the Pas-de-Calais, which the Germans thought the more likely invasion target. Most of the soldiers of the Seventh Army in Normandy Belonged to static divisions.
